Spending over 3 years interviewing almost 100 sources, fact checked meticulously by both the New Yorker and the Atlantic, he has written a compelling story on the behemoth that is Nike. For those of us who were there at the beginning and remember the counter culture that Nike embraced, this is a sad portrayal of a corporation that has lost its way. Even those of us who have followed the sport for the past 50 years will learn from Mr. Hart’s book not only about Nike but the runners that it sponsored. Most impressive of those profiled are the ones who spoke because of their allegiance to fair sport, honor and integrity, and risked their livelihoods and their careers. Having weaned my running career on early waffle trainers and their bestsellers of the 70s and 80s, I’ve always taken an interest in their corporate evolution and internal protocols. Having worked in one the earliest running stores of the late 70s and 80s in south Jersey, it was obvious then that Nike’s policies were indeed able to make-or-break a retail start-up. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Investigative reporting meets strong story telling : This book goes to great lengths to present facts in a coherent timeline and uses the well crafted art of telling the experiences of those involved to accomplish this purpose. The style made for an easy read that was hard to put down. Mr. Hart presented it all with a good measure of objectivity. He successfully avoided both a ham-handed sensationalized tone and an overly jargoned legal brief. I look forward to the next Matt Hart project. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2020 )
